Collaboration for Change

Alberta Recreation and Parks Association
March 11 - 14, 2020
Canmore, AB

Inspired by the incredible diversity of parks, landscapes and open spaces in this country, ARPA created the Parks Forum to gather key partners, educators, students, thinkers, and decision makers to develop ideas and forge connections.
The Parks Forum offers a significant opportunity for collaboration across diverse sectors and cultures. The Forum provides a chance to reflect on and evaluate existing initiatives, while also generating new ideas and approaches to parks planning, management, and use.

This year Parks Forum will also incorporate Parks School, offering the opportunity for front line and mid-level staff to connect, learn, and develop their skills!

The theme for the 2020 Parks Forum is: Parks, Landscapes & Open Spaces: Parks & Resilience.

In the world in which we find ourselves, parks play an important role in both the natural environment and humans alike. However, with an increasingly diverse and complex world, parks at all levels (national, provincial, regional and municipal) from all over the world will need to be resilient in their design, development, and facilitation in their community. Parks foster resilient communities - advancing health and wellness, economic opportunities and sustained cultural traditions.

With that in mind, the 2020 Parks Forum theme will be Parks & Resilience. Discussions of resilient parks, resilient communities, resilient environments may include, but not limited to:

  • Climate Change
  • Fiscal/Financial
  • Biodiversity
  • Social Capital
  • Green Infrastructure
  • Collaboration/Partnerships
  • Leadership, Disrupters, and Innovators
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Management Effectiveness
  • Sustainability
