Watercourse Alteration Certification for Installers
Maritime College of Forest Technology
March 18 - 20, 2020 Truro, NS
The Maritime College of Forest Technology’s, Department of Continuing Education is pleased to offer NS Watercourse Alteration Certification for Installers. The course dates are March 18th – 20th, 2020. The course will be held at the Glengarry Best Western in Truro, Nova Scotia starting at 1:00 PM. Specific course details including an agenda, instructor profile, application form and tuition costs are included in the attached announcement.
The Department of Environment in the Province of Nova Scotia has moved to a notification and approval system for Watercourse Alteration Certification, for persons who have taken a certified sizer and/or installer training program and successfully passed a licensing examination.
This new approach to Watercourse Alteration Certification has revolutionized the system of watercourse alteration application and quality assurance. The focus is on results rather than methods, and accountability rather than approval. The completion of this installer training and subsequent exam will allow the participant to install culverts and single span bridges by way of notification and approval. This means no time-consuming application process, and no long wait for approval prior to starting the installation. It also means the installer is now allowed to use their knowledge and experience to produce results from the sizer’s recommendations that protect watercourses and habitats. This system is similar to sceptic system installation, with certified installers, post-installation inspections, and periodic maintenance of certification.
The course fills up quickly so please apply early to ensure a place. Participant numbers are limited to 25 per course. A very hectic training schedule precludes additional courses prior to June installation season – so please register as soon as possible.
